Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman (born May 25 April 1994) is a retired American artistic gymnast, and a two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she took home a gold in the team event as well as teammates Gabby Douglas and Gabby Douglas the only Americans who won back-to-back gold team medals. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the all-around individual and floor exercise. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the individual all-around as well as the floor exercise. She also is the two-time national champion of floor exercise (2012,2015) as well as the 2012 champion national of balance beam, and five-time medalist at national championships all-around (silver in 2016, and silver in 2012, 2011 (2012), and in 2015. In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), who was a former gymnast at high school and Rick Raisman. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish, has stated that she takes a lot pride in her ability to represent the American people, but as well as the Jewish community around the world. "Raisman started gymnastics when she was eighteen months old. She attributes her initial love for the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold medalists of the U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics which she observed on VHS.She participated in Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, when she was transferred to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman has graduated from Needham High School in 2012. She finished her senior year online , while practicing for the Olympics.
